Welcome to the Pittsburgh Indie Music Scene

25 04 2009
How do you sound independent?  To me, the term indie is more of an attitude or approach to music, so don’t think this site is dedicated to bands who are ripping off Pavement or the Pixies.   It means  you’re more concerned with your music than you are with anything else.  Instead of being caught up with labels, just enjoy music for its own sake.

Another label that can at times can be meant to be derogatory is “local.”  As in a local band who can’t reach beyond the scope of their own city.  Pittsburgh has a vast and varied music scene, despite what some of its members might actually think.  Unfortunately, I’ve come across quite a bit of undeserving criticisms, mostly from fellow musicians.  What we need to keep in mind is that we are the scene, and the scene is what we make of it.

This site is intended to foster a sense of community.  Find like-minded musicians to gig with, get some press for your own band, or discover your new favorite local band.  As a musician myself, I envision this site as being just as useful to fellow musicians as it is to music fans in general.

Just in putting this site together, I’ve been fortunate enough to discover many great bands, and I intend on sharing them with anyone who is willing.   So keep coming back or subscribe to the RSS feed, because I think you’ll be surprised at who Pittsburgh has to offer.
